ice Q Sölden – gourmet restaurant at 3,048m altitude
At the film location of James Bond “Spectre” in Sölden
Cuisine. Panorama. Experience. Above the summit of Sölden, at 3,048m altitude, there is not only a breathtaking view but also a fantastic gourmet restaurant – the ice Q. Innovative architecture meets futuristic design with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Ötztal Alps. Is the location familiar to you? Here were parts of the James Bond movie “Specter” filmed. During our holiday in Sölden we won’t miss the ice Q! Whether with or without skis, the ice Q is definitely worth a visit! Or what could be better than a fantastic view to enjoy a wonderful lunch? 🙂
We visited the ice Q once during a ski break and once as a “pedestrian”. Already at the entrance to the gondola, we had the images from the James Bond movie in mind and were really impressed by the modern and huge gondolas. After a short drive we could already see the glass facade of the impressive building on the top of the Gaislachkogl. What a great view!
The ice Q is completely glazed and consists of two floors. On the first floor is the restaurant, bar and terrace. Upstairs is a lounge and another terrace. No matter which room you are in, you can enjoy a complete 360 degree panoramic view. We were lucky and our table was right in a corner overlooking the mountains. On all my skiing days I already had, I have never had such a fantastic view while eating. At the top of the mountain, at 3,048m above sea level, the view can only be great, but I have never imagined it’s that beautiful. I could have been sitting here all day!
The menu of the ice Q restaurant leaves nothing to be desired. From classic “Schnitzel” to truffle noodles and to sweet dishes, you can find everything here. There is also offered a 4-course menu. And those who are not so hungry can sit on the terrace just for a coffee. My friend and I first had a pumpkin risotto and Schnitzel with a nice Aperol Spritz taste and then enjoyed a coffee in the sun. First there was a bread basket with different delicious spreads. The food was really top class and I would come back anytime.
In January and February 2015 parts of the James Bond movie “Specter” were filmed in Sölden and the ice Q. Randomly, I was on ski holidays in Sölden with my parents during the filming. At that time we were not allowed to visit the ice Q, but it was really exciting to see the film crews on the slopes all day long. There were even created extra areas to house the 500 team members.
By the way, you can find the blog post to this year’s holiday in Sölden at Hotel Das Central here. Have fun while reading! 🙂
