La Pirogue – our hotel in Mauritius

Bungalow Hotel in Flic en Flac in Mauritius

A tropical beach with infinity pool and a hotel area surrounded by palm trees consisting of small bungalows – this is the La Pirogue Resort in Mauritius! We spent 8 days in this beautiful hotel and I would like to share my impressions with you, because maybe you are looking for an accommodation in Mauritius? I can absolutely recommend the La Pirogue to you! (no collaboration)

La Pirogue Hotel

The La Pirogue Resort is located in western Mauritius in Wolmar. The Flic en Flac beach is one of the most beautiful and longest beaches on the island. The sand is white, the water crystal clear & turquoise and the palm trees grow along the whole beach – just as you would imagine a dream!

The hotel was one of the first built in Mauritius. Of course it had some changes since then, but you can still find the original Mauritanian style here. The whole complex consists of small bungalows, there are no normal hotel rooms!  The bungalows are arranged u-shaped and we have already recognized this special construction from the plane. Between the bungalows there are small peculiarities such as hammocks or swings. In the middle is the reception and the main restaurant. Both are kept completely open. Directly on the beach you will find the large infinity pool which fits visually to the exotic surroundings. There is also a pool and a beach bar serving fresh coconuts, drinks and snacks or pizza. In a few bungalows there is the diving center, small boutiques and a car rental / taxi center. The spa and fitness center shares the facility with the neighbor hotel Sugar Beach, which also belongs to Sun Resort Group. As a guest of one hotel, the facilities such as pool, beach and restaurants of the other hotel can be used free of charge. Of course, we also took a look at the Sugar Beach, but since we were so happy with our La Pirogue, we did not use the offer there.

We booked our trip with half board, which I definitely recommend you, as outside the hotels are not many restaurants and anyway they close at 5 p.m. because after sunsetWe had booked on our trip half board, which I recommend you at least, as outside the hotels are not many restaurants to find and close anyway at 17 o’clock, because after sunset there is nothing is going on in the cities. The half board included breakfast and dinner, drinks were added separately. Both meals were served in the main restaurant “Wolmar“. The restaurant consists of an open-plan interior serving the buffet, as well as three outdoor bungalows surrounded by a water feature and accessed via small bridges. Of course we took a seat here every day 🙂 The food in the Wolmar was excellent! The breakfast buffet was so huge, that even after 7 days we discovered something new every day! In the evening was cooked according to a special theme. For example, Italian, French, Creole etc. and twice times it was grilled outdoors on a clay court. Everything was just wonderful and there was something for everyone! If that’s not enough, you can also go to the á la carte restaurant by the pool. The restaurant also consists of bungalows that are directly over the water. Otherwise you can go to the neighbor hotel Sugar Beach, as the two hotel belong together.

Our Bungalow

The bungalows all have a thatched roof and look very traditional. Inside you will find the most modern techniques and everything you would expect in a normal hotel. They are modern and yet adapted to the exotic nature. The large bungalows consists of two houses, but of course completely separate residential units, also with separate terraces. The bungalows right on the beach are a bit smaller, but only for you. The bungalows are not too narrow, so you can enjoy privacy – no matter if single or double bungalow.

We had an upgrade in one of the bungalows right next to the beach, which of course was really great! From our terrace you could directly see the beach and the ocean through the palm trees. That was just beautiful.

The beach

I can’t tell you often enough about how beautiful the Flic en Flac beach is! Surely you have seen the beauty on my pictures 🙂

Since the beach is one of the longest on the island, it is of course great to take a long walk there. From the hotel beach you can walk both left and right. On the right you come to a few private houses (or rather villas) and small hotels over to the public beach and the town of Flic en Flac. If you walk to the left you will come to the Sugar Beach Hotel (which belongs to the La Pirogue) and to some other larger hotels. The public beaches are of course not as prepared as the hotel beaches, so we preferred to walk in the direction of the hotels in order to take a look at these facilities 🙂

By the way, on La Pirogue you can rent free pedal boats, kayaks or stand-up paddling boards on the beach. Twice a day there is also a free glass-bottom boat tour that goes to the reef. There are also volleyball courts, a badminton court, ping-pong tables and a minigolf court, which can also be used free of charge.

In the afternoon we liked to sit in the beach bar “Le Morne” and have a cocktail or a pizza.

The Pool

In the middle of the hotel is also the large infinity pool. The colors and the construction suits perfectly with the exotic palm landscape! I think I don’t need more to say and just let the pictures speak 🙂

We really had a dream vacation at La Pirogue and would choose the hotel again anytime! As already mentioned, this was NOT a cooperation!

If you have any questions I look forward to your comment or message 🙂

Bye for now,
